The holidays may be over but there’s still plenty of celebrating going on in the Crescent City, starting with the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. Then Carnival season kicks off on January 6th (Twelfth Night) with king cake parties and parades. Resolve to make a trip down here this year! Here’s what else is happening this month:
Allstate Sugar Bowl

The Caesars Superdome will be lit up with excitement for the 91st Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl. And did we mention there’s a parade?

Martin Luther King Day 2025
– January 20
Every year, the city honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy with days of service, a parade, and much more. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art usually offers free admission plus art, crafts, and music, and New Orleans City Park hosts an annual day of service.

Meat Nite at Chef Ron’s Gumbo Stop

We hear there’s more to life than gumbo. To prove that point, every Thursday night this month, Chef Ron is offering two pre-Lent meat specials. Choose from a Thick-cut Pork Chop with Grilled Shrimp and a Center-cut Ribeye with Chef’s Choice of Potato. They’re also offering a half-off Happy Hour Thursdays between 4 and 8 p.m. Geaux for it!
World Premier of “Morigiane” at St. Louis Cathedral
– January 23
The Historic New Orleans Collection’s 20th annual Musical Louisiana concert will feature the long-awaited world premiere of “Morgiane” by New Orleans native Edmond Dédé. This historic performance marks the first time Dédé’s opera, written in 1887, will be heard live. The free concert will take place on Thursday, January 23 at St. Louis Cathedral and feature the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, acclaimed soloists, and OperaCréole, under the direction of Patrick Dupre Quigley.
